Worcester Bosch Greenstar 32CDi Compact Combi Boiler – Review
Next up in our series of Worcester Bosch boiler reviews, we have the Greenstar 32CDi Compact Combi, a popular and practical choice for family homes. Here you’ll find everything you need to know about the Greenstar 32CDi, to help you decide whether it’s the best choice for your home.
Before we get onto the finer details, let’s first introduce you to Worcester Bosch, the UK’s leading boiler manufacturer. Over the last few decades, the company has gained a reputation for excellence in innovation, producing top-quality heating systems to suit all properties. Worcester Bosch is a brand you can rely on, and with so many fantastic boiler models to choose from, you’ll have no trouble finding one that meets the needs of your household. Let’s find out if it’s going to be the Worcester 32CDi.
Will the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 32CDi be suitable for my home?
The Worcester Bosch Greenstar 32CDi Classic Combi is designed for semi-detached and detached houses with 3 to 4 bedrooms. With a central heating output of 24kW, it can heat between 15 and 20 radiators. We always recommend doing a quick count up, when researching the output you need.
In terms of hot water output, it offers a generous 32kW and a decent flow rate of 11.5 l/min. This means it’s capable of supplying hot water to more than one bathroom, without any problems. The only thing we would say is that it’s best to get your mains pressure checked before installing a combi boiler, to ensure its power levels are sufficient.
If you are running a smaller home with a lesser need for hot water fast, the Worcester Bosch Greenstar 28CDi Compact may be one to consider. Like all boilers in the Greenstar Compact Combi range, it has a central heating output of 24kW, but its hot water output and flow rate are lower at 28kw and 10 l/min, respectively.
Alternatively, if you have a greater need for hot water fast, the Worcester 36CDi Compact offers an even better flow rate of 12.9 l/min.
For comparison with a different brand, we recommend ranking the Worcester 32CDi Compact against the Vaillant ecoFit Pure 830 Combi. Like the 32CDi Compact, it’s intended to be ‘cupboard size’ and has a similar central heating output of 25kW but slightly lower hot water flow rate of 10.4 l/min.
Worcester 32CDi Compact Combi controls
The 32CDi Compact has a user-friendly display, under its front flap, making the boiler relatively easy to operate. There you will find a clear temperature display, buttons to increase or reduce heat and options to set modes, such as pre-heating.
Today, all boilers must comply with the Boiler Plus regulations, (April 2018), which specify the level of energy efficiency boilers must meet, along with the need for both temperature and time controls in working order.
Combi boilers, including the Greenstar 32cdi Compact, are also required to provide one of the following features:
Load compensation: This is the ability to alter the temperature of the water flowing from the boiler, based on room temperature.
Weather compensation: Similarly, it alters the temperature of the water from the boiler but this time based on the temperature outside.
Smart control: The boiler can be operated with a smart device and smart control to automate cycles and improve efficiency. For example, a smart thermostat.
Passive Flue Gas Heat Recovery Device: Bit of a mouthful but this is the ability to channel (otherwise redundant) flue gas and use it to heat water.
The best way to ensure your Worcester 32CDi Compact boiler is compliant with Boiler Plus is to link it with a smart thermostat and controller. One option is the Bosch EasyControl, which can be programmed with a mobile app so that you can control your heating from any location.
But, you don’t have to go with a Worcester Bosch product. There are plenty of other smart thermostats that are compatible with the Worcester 32CDi Compact. Two very popular options are the Hive and Nest. Like the EasyControl, they have their own mobile apps, so you can control your heating system whether you’re at home or away.
Would you rather get a smart thermostat for free? We thought so. Choose Hometree to install your new combi boiler, and we’ll throw in a fully compatible, Honeywell Lyric T6 Smart Thermostat. Gain greater control of your heating system with its handy mobile app. It offers lots of great functionality, and the best bit is that you won’t have to pay extra for it!
Worcester Bosch Greenstar 32CDi Compact size
One of the most significant selling points of the 32CDi is its compact size. At 690x390x280mm it should be small enough to fit in one of your kitchen cupboards though we’d always suggest getting your tape measure out, to be on the safe side!
Greenstar 32CDi Compact Boiler Warranty
Choose Hometree to install your Worcester Bosch boiler, and you’ll receive a 5-year warranty for free. If you’d like to extend this with a further 5 years, we can do so for a small extra charge. Just so that you know, we’re Worcester Accredited Installers. Our Gas Safe heating engineers have the skills, knowledge and experience to carry out boiler installations to the highest standards, giving you total peace of mind. Worcester 32CDi Energy Efficiency
We’ve already touched on how important it is for boilers to be energy efficient in today’s climate, and the good news is the 32CDi has an A-rated ErP of 92%. By swapping your old boiler (with a lower ErP) for an A-rated model, you’ll not only be helping to do your bit for the environment but lowering your energy bills too!
Verdict – Is the Worcester Bosch 32CDi Compact Combi the right boiler for you?
The Worcester 32CDi may be compact, but it certainly doesn’t compromise on power. Its ability to heat between 15 and 20 radiators makes it an excellent choice for big family homes, and its hot water output of 32kW should be sufficient for those with more than one bathroom.
Paired up with a smart thermostat and digital controller, the 32CDi can be optimised for greater efficiency, with the possibility to lower your heating bills. All in all, it’s a great performing, highly efficient combi boiler from a brand you can trust.
